5 Steps to Keeping Your Remodel Organized

Are you a DIY'er? What is your plan of attack when you start a project? Some of us may like to just go at it and start and then make changes from there and some of us would prefer to have a proper plan in place. These are the 5 steps we believe are important to completing a successful home project.

1. Do your research

Whether you plan to do the project yourself or to hire someone, make sure you get every detail finalized BEFORE you begin. This may be hard for the anxious people, but it is crucial to spend a month or two planning your project and creating a timeline.

2. Stick to a budget

There is nothing worse than rushing into a project and all of a sudden you are $5,000 over budget. It is best to have your budget finalized before you meet with contractors (if that is the route you are going to take) so you can accurately compare quotes.

3. Get multiple quotes from different contractors and find someone with whom you feel comfortable

A remodel is only as good as the professional doing it, so make sure you get multiple quotes to find one that not only fits in your budget, but also works with your timeline and is someone you click with.

4. Check in frequently

It is so frustrating getting delayed and not being informed until it happens. Make sure you check in periodically to see how things are coming along.

5. Understand the vastness of the project

If the project is going to take time, be patient. Do your research so you know what to expect as for the timeline and approach the job site with a positive attitude.
