5 Best Fall Hikes Around Grand Junction


There is nothing quite like bundling up and seeing the fall foliage all around you. Here are some of the best hikes for fall around town.

1. Powderhorn Mountain Resort

September 30th is 'Color Sunday' from 10:00 to 4:00 at Powderhorn. The day consists of scenic lift rides ($12), mountain biking,The Palette painting classes from 1:00 - 3:00, and live music from 2:30 - 5:00. Enjoy stunning views of the Grand Mesa and take in the beautiful Aspen Trees transforming their colors while hiking with your family.

2. The River Front Trail

30 miles of a paved trail makes it a perfect Sunday hike or bike ride. If you want to see the colors changing, make sure you do the 1.4 mile Audubon section. Keep your eyes open for wildlife and the many bird varieties!

3. Rim Rock

Head West to Rim Rock Drive and take in the red, orange, green, and yellow among the 20,000 acres of sandstone canyons and mesa.

4. Glade Park

Glade Park is a small community near the Colorado National Monument known for its swimming holes, however it also makes for a great hike in the fall to truly embrace all the colors.

5. Grand Mesa Scenic Byway - Cedaredge

If you really want to embrace the colors, head out the the scenic byway and soak in the vibrant scrub oaks and golden aspens. Stop in Cedaredge for great hospitality, bushels of apples (in October there will be the Applefest), and endless fall colors around you.
