Top 5 Winter Activities in Grand Junction

1. Downhill skiing

Of course we put skiing first, but it is just too good at Powderhorn. Powderhorn features1,600 acres of terrain and nearly 1,700 feet of vertical drop! Not only can you rent equipment and go skiing or snowboarding, but you also can make a weekend trip out of it by staying in the lodge, taking lessons, and enjoying their restaurant! Can you imagine a more perfect winter getaway!?

2. Ice Skating

Grab a group of friends and head to Glacier Ice Arena where you can enjoy 36,000 SF of ice INDOORS! You can rent skates for $3 and the cost of general admission is just $6. If you prefer skating outdoors, Ouray Rotary Park Ice Rink is a great option! It is just under a 2 hour drive from Grand Junction and is volunteer-run.While you are there, enjoy the beauty of the town of Ouray and their natural sulfur-free hot springs!

3. Go to a hockey game

Enjoy the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks or the JHL team, the Grand Junction Coyotes, play hockey at the Glacier Ice Arena home! You will love the fun, exciting vibe and cheers all around you!

4. Fat Biking (and events at bike shops)

Here in Grand Junction we love our biking! The winter months don't need to stop you from doing what you enjoy. Fat bikes have big tires that can handle soft surfaces like the snow. You can rent these bikes at Brown Cycles and Ruby Canyon Cycles and once you do, go hit the trails on Lunch Loop or any of the Fruita trails! If you are looking for fun events, Brown Cycles hosts tons of events like swing dancing (at the bike shop) on Wednesday nights and an awesome New Years party!

5. Cross Country Skiing

If downhill skiing isn't your thing, try classic or skate skiing at Mesa Lakes Lodge (you can rent skis there). There are many interconnected trails that can leave you skiing for five hours without repeating any area! There is also access to the West Bench Trail if that just isn't enough for you.
