10 Ways To Brighten Your Space (& Make Home Your Feel Bigger)

We love bright and airy spaces. Having natural light streaming through the windows definitely helps, but there are even things you can do if you don't have a window in that room! Read on...

1. Light Paint Colors

This is the easiest way to brighten up any room. Choosing a white, off-white, monochromatic scheme of grey, cream or yellow will allow the light to bounce off the walls making the room appear bigger and brighter.

2. Floor to Ceiling White Shelves

Not only will this help clear the clutter off your floor, but it also draws the eye upward making the room appear larger than it really is.

3. Neutral or White curtains

Sheer and white coverings brighten up a room and also draw the eyes to the outdoors. White curtains allow the light to still come through creating a soft, natural glow.

4. Mirrors

By positioning a mirror directly across from a window, you can increase the light and make the room feel brighter. Choose a mirror that fits in with your decor style and you will also have a great piece in which to decorate!

5. Neutral Decor

Look for classic pieces like clear glass or white porcelain. These pieces are not just trendy and will withstand the test of time. Also look for pieces that have different texture to liven up the space and bring more focus elements for your eyes.

6. Rugs

Rugs create a bright and homey feel while also adding texture and interest to the room. This is a great way to make your space uniquely yours!

7. Lighting

Obviously we have to mention lighting. Recessed lighting is a great option because it will bounce the light where you want it, allowing you the capability of featuring larger areas and making the space appear bigger.

8. Light Colored Ceilings

Three crucial reasons you should have white ceilings: 1. it opens up the above space, 2. it will complement any wall color, and 3. it will reflect light.

9. One Large Painting

If you have several small paintings it will make the space appear smaller, so opt for one large focal point. Another tip is to hang the painting at eye height so there is plenty of space above it for the eye to wander.

10. Flooring

Dark flooring paired with light walls will make the room seem bigger (and is becoming increasingly more popular). Laying the floor diagonally also opens up the space and makes it appear bigger.
